Called Universes Beyond, this new line of products will include other licensed properties, including Warhammer 40,000 and J.R.R.
The Brothers’ War, fourth quarter 2022 – retelling the long, bloody feud between siblings Urza and Mishra, which first appeared in 1994’s Antiquities, this set will expand its focus beyond Dominaria to encompass new artefacts, giant mechs, and more.During an investor call on Thursday, Wizards of the Coast parent company Hasbro announced a new initiative for Magic: The Gathering. Dominaria United, third quarter 2022 – returning to the plane of Dominaria – the first Magic setting, which last appeared in 2018 – the set is being billed as a celebration of Magic’s 30-year history, and will feature the breadth of its universe. It features competing demonic crime families fighting for control of an angelic city. Streets of New Capenna, second quarter 2022 – a new plane that combines demons and gangsters, this set is a riff on 1920s noir films. It will introduce a fantasy-cyberpunk aesthetic, and a cyber-ninja Planeswalker called Kaito. 
Kamigawa: Neon Dynasties, first quarter 2022 – set in the Feudal Japan-inspired plane of Kamigawa, which first appeared in the titular 2004 set, Neon Dynasties takes place 2000 years in the future. We can expect to see the following releases in 2022: Most substantial among them was the reveal of next year’s core Magic sets, which will take the game through familiar planes and new worlds alike. During the stream, communications manager at Wizards of the Coast Blake Rasmussen confirmed that the commander decks would be the only 40k crossover releases for MTG, saying: “Warhammer 40,000 is specifically going to be Commander decks”.Īlongside the grimdark details, the stream provided a bumper crop of announcements. The Commander decks will feature new art, new cards, and reprints of old cards that have been rethemed with Warhammer 40k artwork. 
Publisher Wizards of the Coast did confirm other factions will be making an appearance in the final set, however, so it won’t be entirely dominated by blue power armour. In the showcase yesterday, two artworks of the set were revealed, both featuring those most popular denizens of the 41st Millennium: Ultramarines.
Warhammer 40k will crossover into the Magic Multiverse in a series of four Commander decks (pre-constructed, often thematic card collections that can be used right out of the box) scheduled to release in 2022. Shown during yesterday’s Magic Showcase 2021, MTG is returning to some fan-favourite planes next year, and bringing plenty of out-of-universe characters with it.
The first glimpse of Magic: The Gathering’s upcoming Warhammer 40k crossover set has been revealed, alongside the trading card game’s next batch of core sets, a look at its forthcoming Lord of the Rings release, and the reveal of even more videogame crossover sets.
